Chema Alvargonzález

Chema Alvargonzález (Jerez de la Frontera, 1960) studied multimedia at the Escola Massana in Barcelona and in 1993 took a degree in fine arts at the famous Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. Since that time, he has lived and worked between these two cities. Of a clearly conceptual cut, his work ranges over different disciplines, with photography, installations, and sculpture among the most outstanding ones. Urban spaces and the role of humankind in today’s society constitute basic concerns in the work of this artist. Based on these concerns are the experiments with (natural or artificial) light. Interventions in buildings, installations with neon lights and light boxes, are some of the preferred ways to present his work, which is regularly shown in the Carles Taché Gallery (Barcelona), Oliva Arauna (Madrid), Artinprogress (Berlin), among others. He has done installations on the façades of such iconic buildings as the Spanish Embassy in Berlin (1992), Munich Airport (2000) and the Swiss Embassy in Berlin, located a few metres from the German Parliament (2001).
