Jiri Georg Dokoupil

Dokoupil by Paul Maenz in Flash Art, captures the essence of this rebellious and iconoclastic painter's attitude: his infinite curiosity towards everything new, his relaxed attitude to the clichés of modern society, his radical anarchism and chameleonic versatility - in 1991, the number of different styles he has worked with rose to 49. The person who is today one of the most important representatives of German art was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia, in 1954, but in 1969 emigrated with his family to Cologne. There, in 1980, along with five other artists, Dokoupil founded the group Mülheimer Freiheit, which contributed to a drastic subversion not just of the German artistic scene, but to a certain extent of the international art scene as well.
