Josep Guinovart
Josep Guinovart (Barcelona, 1927- 2007) is one of the most highly regarded Spanish painters of the second half of the twentieth century. He was connected with the Dau al Set group and was one of the founders of the Tahull group (1955), along with Jaume Muxart, Tàpies y Tharrats. During the first years of his activity, he did paintings murals, theatre decorations, posters and illustrations. In 1957 his painting abandoned figuration to concentrate on vanguardist movements. He was influenced by Cubism, abstraction, informalism, Pop Art, collage techniques and assemblage, maintaining a strong link with Mediterranean culture. He won the 1983 Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas and, in 1990, the Premio Nacional de la Generalitat de Catalunya. His work has been in important exhibitions, such as the Expo de Sevilla in 1992, that of the Centro Cultural Conde Duque (Madrid, 1997) and the La Pedrera Anthology (Barcelona, 2002).
