One characteristic side to the work of Eduardo Arroyo is the portrait, whether real or metaphorical. This is the case with Europa, a lithograph from 1989 that originally belonged to a folder entitled &#171Nous, citoyens de la Communauté européenne&#187. Always alert to the changes in the society around him, Arroyo is always aware of political and historical reality. On this occasion he symbolically portrays the new Europe as a community of peoples. The letters on the beautiful female face and the chromatic simplicity place this work halfway between Pop Art and the comic. The stars still symbolise the twelve-country Europe, for which reason the work, when today's Europe has twenty-five members, is already a historical work.
