Behind a simple front with only three controls, we find the best technology and a tuning ability far superior to that of most radios. This combination of design and technology has made of the radio a cult object in the United States and a phenomenon throughout the world. The Model One was the first radio that used the MOSFET GaAs technology to improve station tuning. Initially developed for mobile telephones, this technology allows for far better reception than a conventional radio. The Tivoli Model One has an audio input that permits connection with a CD player, MP3 player etc., an audio output for connection with a stereo speaker, headphones, subwoofer, etc., and a 12V external supply input, which allows it to be connected to a backup, and also an aerial input.
