Joan Barbarà

In the work of Joan Barbará (Barcelona, 1927 - 2013) talent converges with experience and métier. Early in his career he was awarded prizes and, in 1957, a scholarship from the French Institute that took him to Paris, where he had the opportunity to print works by great artists like Dalí and Picasso. Returning to Barcelona, he continued to develop his work in what he progressively came to define as a style of his own, with extreme virtuosity and great expressive capacity. Barbará is a genuine plastic artist with an eminent control of the most diverse engraving techniques. His exquisite still lifes and landscapes show great sensitivity. Through his Engraver’s Studio great artists from his country of birth and from other countries have passed: Beuys and Miró, Saura, Tàpies and Chillida. They have, with the helping hand of this master engraver, produced prints of excellent technical ability.
