Ricardo Calero

The work of Ricardo Calero (Villanueva del Arzobispo, 1955) emerged to the public eye in the 1970s with sculptures that appropriate space and evolve into a minimalist synthesis. Calero’s pieces concede a special value to the materials and are inspired on concepts such as time, silence, the void, the nada, and light. His first creative phase was characterised by a marked concern with the social aspect of art. Between 1980 and 1986 he concentrated on teaching and, with other artists, the creation of spaces of reflection such as the magazine Contenido, Extrema Presión (Content, Extreme Pressure). Since 1987, he has participated in important trade fairs such as Arco, Estampa and ART-Cologne. Outstanding examples of his work are his exhibitions in the galleries Calart, Geneva, Naviglio, Milan and Galería 57, Madrid. He has received, among other distinctions, the Premio de Escultura de la Ciudad de Cáceres (1980) and honourable mention in the II Premio de Escultura Pablo Gargallo (1988).

Recent projects: Creative residence at the Fundación Santa María de Albarracín, Teruel, 2008.
