Albert Gonzalo

Albert Gonzalo (Tarragona, 1954) studied at the Escuela de Artes Aplicadas y Oficios Artísticos de Tarragona. His studies in painting were completed at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes Sant Jordi in Barcelona, where the artist has lived since 1970. His first solo exhibition, in 1976, was held at the Galería Nàrtex, Barcelona, and from that time he has shown regularly in Barcelona and other European cities, such as Berlin, Montpellier, and Oporto. His creative universe reveals the influence of foreign cultures and ancient civilisations, for which he feels a great fascination. Variations on temples, sacred places, and tombs are some of the central themes in his pictures and engravings. Spots, colours, forms, and textures would seem to open windows towards possible worlds where reality and fiction are inter-conflated. The experiences of Gonzalo’s journeys through Tibet, Italy, the Far East, and North Africa feed his special imaginary in a singular way.
