Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona, 1923) is one of the most prestigious Spanish artists. Painter, sculptor, engraver and writer, he began his career in art with works influenced by Surrealism. In 1948 he joins the groud Dau al Set, one of the most innovative of the Post War period, of great parallelism to CoBrA. Attracted by Informalism, which launches him to fame in the Fifties, Tàpies does not abandon his interest in matter, and begins his own personal path, an original perception of reality which has opened him up to several fields of artistic expression.
