About this work:
For the centenary of the birth of Jorge Luis Borges (Buenos Aires, 1899), one of the greatest writers of the century, Círculo del Arte is offering its collector's edition of El Aleph, in a new edition, masterfully illustrated by José Hernández (Tánger, 1944). Garlanded with numerous prizes (the National Prize for Fine Arts and the International Engraving Biennial of Krakow among others), Hernández features in numerous museums and galleries around the world. Since 1988 he has been a teacher at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, and recently has had a huge success with a major exhibition in Barcelona. His illustrations for the stories gathered together in El Aleph interpret Borges' fantastic visions using his unmistakeable pictorial language. His masterful technique depicts an entire world of references and magical allusions. Hernández has created three extraordinary etchings, each limited to 100 copies, the first of which accompanies the first 100 copies of the book. The subject is the portrait of Borges shown here. The book and the engraving are protected by a beautiful case. The book: with 17 illustrations by José Hernández and a narrative homage by Carlos Fuentes.
