Fernando Bellver
Fernando Bellver (Madrid, 1954) studied at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Madrid and specialised in graphic techniques. In both painting and engraving, he moves within the technique of figuration, paying special attention to drawing and to the treatment of colour, which he uses with great skill, offering a critical vision of society. His iconography is fed by recurrent images in the history of art that deconstruct into consumer objects. His artworks are full of irony, reflection, and, at times, a semi-occult charge of j’accuse in a comic wrapper. Fernando Bellver has exhibited widely in Spain, Europa, and America and has had wide success in the field of public sculpture. Some of his pieces are in institutions of the stature of the Museo Nacional Reina Sofía, the New York University Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in Cairo.
In 2008 he has received the Premio Nacional de Arte Gráfico.
